Irony

The word “irony” has a different meaning from how it is usually used.  Usually, when we say something is ironic, we mean that it holds an amusing coincidence.  The actual definition is something closer to “using a word for it’s non-literal meaning.”

The fact that we often us a non-literal meaning for the word irony is ironic as well.  Not in the literal sense, though; it’s ironically ironic.

  1. totally, I hate that. And the Alanis Morrisette song: I like the song, but her misuse of the word drives me nuts
